ASICS GT 2000 14 Review – Balance of Stability and Cushioning

Last Updated: December 28, 2025

By Paul Freary

Perhaps one of ASICS’ most popular running shoes ever, the GT2000 undergoes major revisions in this update, and for me, the inspiration from the brand’s Novablast 5 model makes it a winner straight out of the box!

The most striking update to the new GT2000 v14 is the FF BLAST MAX. This is the same midsole foam used in the NOVABLAST 5, and as such, offers a similar soft, bouncy, and ‘trampoline-inspired’ forefoot propulsion.

ASICS GT 2000 14 Midsole

I really enjoyed the latest version of the NOVABLAST and I think ASICS finally hit the sweet spot (at least for me) in terms of creating a foam which is soft, light and bouncy, yet offers enough stability to keep the foot balanced.

Using that same FF BLAST MAX midsole makes the GT2000 an even more versatile shoe than it previously was, and for runners like myself who prefer a little support in a training shoe, it makes for a great update.

ASICS GT 2000 14 Lacing

PureGel is inserted in the heel, but I found it hard to differentiate the addition of this Gel over now Gel models. PureGel is, after all, a very small piece of Gel, and I think it may still be incorporated simply for diehard fans of Gel models of years gone by.

A new 3D guidance system creates stability in the shoe without the need for a traditional medial post. Here, there’s a slight medial flare to the midsole along with a straighter geometry of the foam from the heel, through the arch and into the forefoot, as well as deeper sidewalls.

ASICS GT 2000 14 Heel Back

All these features work together to create a level of support which I found instantly effective, cradling my foot and keeping me in a neutral position through my stride.

Fit

The fit is true to size, although personally, I have found several ASICS models recently to feel just a touch smaller. Now, while I haven’t sized up at all, the shoes do feel a couple of mm smaller than previous generation models.

ASICS GT 2000 14 Heel Collar

This could simply be my own feet, perhaps spreading out a little as I get older, and as I say, it’s not enough for me to change from my regular size, but if you can try before you buy.

The upper is the usual, well-made construction, with thick, plush padding around the ankle collar and Achilles area. The tongue is a little slimmer with minimal padding, sitting under the lace holes. While I am a fan of more padded uppers, I found this neat and well-fitting.

Performance

From the moment I pulled on the new GT-2000 v14, I could tell I was going to like it. The shoe instantly feels plush and welcoming, but with a stable underfoot feel.

ASICS GT 2000 14 Outsole

The cushioning feels very effective and, at the same time, unintrusive and smooth. The shoe rolls from heel strike to toe-off with a beautifully responsive ride. Notice I did say heel striker, and while some may frown with disapproval, the shoe is a support category model designed to cope with overpronators that run this way.

I found the fit to be plush and welcoming, and as good as anything currently on the market from ASICS.

ASICS GT 2000 14 Upper

There is a familiarity with the NOVABLAST, but here it feels more controlled and stable as we’d expect. I’ve been referring to the GT2000v14 as a ‘supportive NOVABLAST’ to friends, and many agree.

ASICS Kayano 32

Also from ASICS, the Gel Kayano 32 is a competitor model. I’ve been running in both these models recently, specifically for a full comparison and will post that in-depth review soon.

New Balance 860v14

The New Balance Fresh Foam X 860v14 is another shoe that blends good cushioning and control. Before trying the ASICS, the New Balance was one of my favourite shoes in this category, but the GT2000v14 now edges ahead thanks to its improved and more responsive cushioning.

Brooks Adrenaline GTS 24

Brooks Adrenaline GTS 24 has been a long-time staple in my shoe rotation, and with the GT2000 14, the competition is very close. I think the Brooks edges it in terms of support, but the ASICS in terms of cushioning feel. It’s a very close call, so try both if you can!

My Verdict

I’ve found the new GT2000 v14 to be one of the best updates to the line in recent years. The new FF Blast Max foam transforms the ride, and being in a more stable shoe makes it a great daily trainer for runners like me.

ASICS GT 2000 14 Toe Box

I am always a little dubious when a brand removes the obvious control or stability elements from a shoe, but any concerns were quickly dismissed in this case. The shoe felt instantly runnable, and I’ve very quickly included it in my weekly rotation of training shoes.

For runners who want a support-type shoe as well as a model that feels a little bit smoother and faster than the usual offerings, like me, you may just find the ASICS GT2000 14 to be the perfect choice.
